Food & Wine experiences

Riebeek-Kasteel-with-snow-capped-Witzenberg-Mountains-in-the-background.jpg This tour focuses on experiences such as wine making, wine bottling & blending. Tastings of olives & olive oil as well as learning how to make local dishes such as Cape Malay Curry are also included.
You will also have the opportunity to visit several smaller wine estates and interact with the wine makers.

Comfy Country Cooking & Wine Experience – minimum 4 guests: (3-day & 2-night)

DAY 1:

  • Drive to Fynbos Estate for lunch (included) – either self drive or guided with transport included.
  • Cooking (South African dishes with local ingredients) in afternoon leading into dinner

DAY 2:

  • Wine & Olive day – visit the following places:

Meerhof Private Cellar:

Situated on the slopes of the Riebeek Mountain, Meerhof Private Cellar is surrounded by breathtaking views of Table Mountain and the Riebeek Valley. The winery was built on the old Bothmanskloof Pass which forms the link between Malmesbury and the picturesque Riebeek Valley. Meerhof entered the Young Wine Show for the first time in 2003 and was a class winner with their Pinotage.

Kloovenberg Wine and Olives:

Kloovenberg stretches along the lower contours of Kasteelberg (Castle Mountain). Owner and winemaker Pieter du Toit has selected the best red grape cultivars for his exclusive red wines, including Shiraz, Merlot, Pinotage and Cabernet Sauvignon. Olive specialist Annalene du Toit produces the estate’s olives, olive oils and olive-related products.

Het Vlock Casteel:

Het Vlock Casteel not only grow all their own olives and fruit, they turn it into mouth-watering produce.  A visit to Het Vlock Casteel is an opportunity to learn more about olives and olive oil – a tasting with a difference! They are renowned for their exquisite Merlot and award winning olives and olive oil.

Allesverloren Estate:

Allesverloren, the oldest estate in the Riebeek Valley, lies at the foot of the Kasteelberg (Castle Mountain) near the village of Riebeek West.  Since 1872 the farm has been owned by the Malan family.  Danie Malan (fifth generation) has been the winemaker since 1990.  Allesverloren is well known for their Port as well as an excellent range of red wines viz. Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz and oak-aged Tinta Barocca. They also produce Allesverloren Touriga Naçional – a limited edition of Portugal’s best loved cultivar.

DAY 3:
Three options depending on the time of year:

  1. Morning excursion – community project & enjoying tea time snack
  2. In wine making season there will be a morning activity of making, bottling & blending of wines – depending on the time of year.
  3. Shiraz & Art Festival (September)
  • Lunch at Fynbos – included – picnic somewhere on the farm (depending on weather) with wine tasting from local wineries & garagiste
  • Resting in afternoon till departure

Our trip with Ince was wonderful - she was lovely, and we all enjoyed it immensely.  The scenery was breathtaking, and we all enjoyed the unusual aspects, like meeting baboons sitting in the road and ostriches walking alongside it - and on the beach - they kept turning up unexpectedly.  Francisca really enjoyed having her questions on the fynbos answered, and spending time with Ince while we explored Cape Point.
